The Hunt (ur maneuver) – earth maneuver

The Hunt è un video che fa parte di un complesso lavoro che include video, incisioni a punta secca e oggetti trovati. La performance di tre giorni si è svolta nell’Urbachtal, in una valle isolata nelle Alpi svizzere.

Durante questi 3 giorni ho provato a prendere l’ "Ur".  "Ur" in tedesco significa “un'origine di qualcosa”.

L '"Ur" è un termine astratto e di fantasia, ma chiunque ha il senso dell’origine, della nascita, dell’ispirazione, del vero inizio di qualcosa. E questo è quello che io stavo “cacciando”.

I miei strumenti di lavoro sono stati una lastra di rame e un Go-Pro. Gettando il rame attraverso il paesaggio, colpendo alberi e rocce, la superficie liscia del metallo si è graffiata.

Così ho riportato sulla lastra di rame le tracce lasciate dal contatto con il paesaggio.

"The hunt" è anche un lavoro sull’ immagine generale che abbiamo delle montagne. Il romantico e il sublime emanato dalle montagne non può essere più raggiunto. In qualche modo sulla lastra di rame ci sono solo graffi.

Ma invece siamo in grado di registrare tutte le azioni folli che facciamo sulle montagne.

The Hunt (ur maneuver) - Earth Maneuver, 2012

The short titled ‘The Hunt’ is part of a complex oeuvre including videos, drypoint engravings and found objects. The three-day performance took place in Urbachtal, a remote valley in the Swiss Alps. During these three days I tried to attain the “Ur”, which in German translates as “the origin of something”. The term “Ur” is an abstract product of imagination however everyone of us has an inkling, even if vague, of concepts such as origin, inspiration, authentic beginning. This is what I have been “hunting”. My working tools were a copper plate and a Go-Pro. By tossing the copper around the surrounding landscape whilst hitting trees and rocks, the smooth surface of the metal scratched itself. It was hence that I decided to transfer the marks left by the contact with the landscape on the copper plate. “The Hunt” is a project concerned with the image we hold of mountains. The romantic and the sublime, which used to be associated with the mountains will be improbable concepts in the future. Somehow, on the copper plate all that is left are scratches. Notwithstanding all this, we are able to record all the crazy moves we perform in the mountains. The sublime is now to be found on YouTube.

Le court-métrage “The Hunt” fait partie d’une oeuvre constituée par des vidéos, des gravures et des objets trouvés. La performance de trois jours a eu lieu dans l’Urbachtal, une vallée isolée des Alpes suisses. Pendant trois jours j’ai essayé de saisir l’”Ur”, un terme allemand qui indique l’origine. Le mot “Ur” c’est un produit de l’imagination pourtant chacun de nous a une familiarité, même si plutôt vague, avec les concepts d’origine, inspiration et naissance authentique. Ca c’est ce que j’ai “chassé”. Mes outils de travail c’était une plaque de cuivre et un Go-Pro. En lançant le cuivre dans les alentours et en frappant les arbres et les roches, la surface lisse du metal s’est rayée. C’était alors que j’ai décidé de transférer les signes produits par le contact avec la nature sur la plaque de cuivre.  

“The Hunt” est un project qui concerne l’image qu’on retient des montagnes. Le romantisme et le sublime associés avec elles sont destinés à évanouir dans le futur. En quelque sorte, tout ce qui reste c’est des rayures sur une plaque de cuivre. Malgré tout, on est encore capable de reprendre les idioties qu’on fait à la montagne. Le sublime survie aujourd’hui dans l’internet sur YouTube.

The Hunt ist eine Sequenz, die Teil einer komplexen Arbeit, die aus Videos, Gravuren und gefundenen Objekten besteht. Die dreitägige Performance wurde im Urbachtal gehalten, in einem abgelegenen Tal in den Schweizer Alpen. Während dieser drei Tage habe ich versucht, das "Ur” zu ergreifen. Auf Deutsch bezeichnet das Wort “Ur”, die Ursprung von etwas. "Ur" ist ein abstrakter Begriff der Phantasie, nun jeder von uns ist mit den Ideen des Ursprungs, der Geburt, der Inspiration, der eigentlichen Anfang, vertraut. Das “Ur” ist was ich gejagt habe. Meine Werkzeuge waren eine Kupferplatte und ein Go-Pro. Beim Kupfer über die Landschaft zu werfen und Bäume und Felsen zu schlagen, habe ich die glatte Metalloberfläche zerkratzt. Weshalb habe ich berichtet die Einschnitte, die ich durch den Kontakt mit der Landschaft bewirkt habe, auf die Kupferplatte zu übertragen.  

The Hunt handelt auch um die allgemeine Wahrnehmung der Berge. Das Romantische und das Erhabene, die mit den Bergen assoziiert werden, sind nicht erreichbar. In gewisser Weise, bleiben auf der Kupferplatte nur Schnittwunde. Trotzt, können wir nun noch die verrückten Aktionen, die wir in den Bergen ausführen, erfassen. Das Erhabene überlebt heute im Internet auf  YouTube.
